DeWitt/Dominic Celebration Week - Five Alternate Universes - “Rockstar”

She’s been in this seedy pub several times more than acceptable that she’s gotten used to the smell of stale beer and the rancid stench of dry vomit on the floor.

“Honestly, Addie. Could you at least try finding better places to drink in New York?” Her manager whispers in horror as they venture deeper into the bar. There are barely any lights on, but maneuvering around isn’t difficult since there isn’t a crowd to speak of.

Adelle brings him to an empty table near the makeshift stage, the only well-lit area in this place.

“Can you explain to me again what we’re doing in this part of the city at two in the morning?” he asks, taking a quick and wary look around them, “You know that I dislike judging a book by its cover, but please tell me we’re not here for the booze.”

“We’re definitely not here for the booze, Clyde.”

Clyde Randolph has been her managing her for almost two years and she has no idea what she may have done to make him think she drinks all the time (“I’m British. You’re British. Let’s not delude ourselves.”).

“So we’re here for…?” he trails off. Clyde has always been amusing at two in the morning.

“I found my new guitarist.”

“Your… new guitarist?”

She’s not surprised that Clyde seems shocked with her apparent initiative. Her band’s guitarist unceremoniously quit a few weeks back (which, in her opinion, is the best way to start an album).

Adelle thought they can do without the man; Clyde thought the record company wouldn’t take a liking to it and has been trying to find someone who could fill the spot ever since.

“I was under the impression you didn’t want a new one.”

“Well, I want this one.”

DeWitt/Dominic Celebration Week - Five Alternate Universes - “Spy vs Spy”

“This operative is highly-trained and dangerous. She killed six agents while evading capture. We don’t want you to be the seventh.”

“CIA?”

“No, MI-6. They want her eliminated as quickly possible.” His handler gives him a stack of folders, “Her profile. You have free rein on how to proceed with this mission. Just get it done.”

Dominic flips through the pages, “Any idea where she is?”

“Intel from 48 hours ago suggests she’s in Morocco.”

“Forty-eight hours ago? She’s probably not going to be there anymore.” He replies as he looks at the only picture in the folder. She’s a beautiful woman and if she’s as good as he thinks she is, she’ll be very difficult to track down.

“Then work fast.”

Twenty hours later

The flat is cramped and humid. The ceiling fan creaks as its blades slowly spin. It doesn’t make the temperature any more bearable, but at least the continuous flow of air is keeping her from choking on the humidity.

Sweat trickles down her back and she looks out the window. The market is filled with people.

Then, the cell phone on top of her table begins to beep. She quickly takes it and reads the message.

Target just landed

The CIA agent she’s been tasked to kill has arrived in the country, no doubt to meet with his buyers as the agency intel had indicated.

Send location asap

MI-6 didn’t say anything about eliminating him cleanly, which means there would be no repercussions if some of his buyers become collateral damage.

DeWitt looks at her watch. She can’t wait to get out of this country.

DeWitt/Dominic Celebration Week - Five Alternate Universes - “The Mustang Runner”

The sun is setting and he’s made himself comfortable in the steps of cabin where the ranch hands stayed. He busies himself with strengthening the rope he’ll be using in the next couple of weeks. It’s his way to relax and a good excuse for not joining the other ranch hands in their trip to the saloon.

Once in a while, he’d still a glance at the house several yards away. The owner of the ranch, a widow by the name of Adelle DeWitt, lives there with her young son and other members of the household. If stories he heard from the men are true, Adelle DeWitt was some sort of royalty in England, who eloped to America. That a few years ago, her husband had been killed by thieves and all were killed by the woman afterwards. They also say she has a better aim than the gunslingers that came to town and can out-drink anybody who challenges her.

Laurence looks at the house again. He has no idea if any of these are true; the number of times he had talked to her can be counted in one hand and from all their short conversations, she came across as a forceful, intelligent and reasonable woman, who has her hands full with her precocious son. And somehow, every time he sits on these steps, his thoughts would drift to the woman who owns this ranch.

Maybe he should find a new spot to sit on tomorrow.

DeWitt/Dominic Celebration Week - Five Alternate Universes - “The World is A Stage (and I am its Star)”

“So, DeWitt and Dominic, dancing together again in New York. We never thought it would happen again. Are you both excited for this new season?” The interviewer gives them a big smile as she puts her recorder in front of both of them.

Dominic nods his head, “Yes. I’m thrilled to be back.” He says, although the tone of his voice and the expression on his face doesn’t match what he’s saying. He glances at Adelle, who’s seated beside him. There isn’t a flicker of emotion on her face.

He looks back at the interviewer, “We’re both thrilled.”

The interviewer reacts initially with bemusement but recovers quickly, “How does it feel dancing together again?”

“There’s a bit of adjustment.” He replies, “It’s been three years, after all.”

“Although it’s not my bloody fault that we haven’t danced together for three years.” Adelle looks at him and gives him a pointed look. She waits for a beat before facing the interviewer again to flash a cheeky grin.

This time, he forces himself to smile and play along. This is going to be a tricky interview.

“After this, Juliet will always trust you, without question or hesitation. No matter what the circumstance. You’re about to become the most important person to one of the most requested Actives in the LA Dollhouse.”

She feels him look at her. Why does he look so confused?

“I thought the old guys like younger girls? Like that Echo?”

She brightens up when she hears Echo’s name. She likes Echo.

(Something’s different with Echo. Something is… changing)

“I like Echo.” She beams.

“Yes, you do, Juliet. You all like each other.” The boy agrees and smiles at her before turning to the thing that makes clickety sounds, “Juliet is… well, let’s just say, that classical facial structure of hers works really well with women-in-power kind of imprints.” before turning to the man again, “Some of ‘em like old and fierce, if you didn’t know.”
